After the detonation in a restaurant in central Moscow, the Russian authorities talk about the assassination of civilians. Russian MFA spokesperson Maria Zacharova accused NATO and the European Union of participating in global terrorist activities. This is simply a serious allegation which Moscow has not yet supported by publically presented evidence.
Victims of an detonation in central Moscow
On Saturday, August 1, there was an detonation at a restaurant in central Moscow. According to the French paper "Le Monde", the Russian services initially reported 3 dead: a female with a package, a bodyguard and 1 of the guests. Russian media besides wrote about the injured. Later reports of further deaths were not officially confirmed at the time of publication.
Every civilian death requires seriousness. Regardless of the nationality of the victims, an attack aimed at people outside the battlefield is simply a crime and should be well explained. Families killed have the right to the fact and perpetrators to justice on the basis of evidence.
Zacharova hits NATO and the European Union
Maria Zacharova, a spokesperson for the Ministry of abroad Affairs of the Russian Federation, stated that NATO and the European Union became “part of global terrorist activity”. Her words were given by the portal DoRze.pl. It is the position of Russian diplomacy, not to establish an independent investigation or court.
Russian authorities and state media tie the assassination to Kiev. The Ukrainian side did not admit responsibility, and publically available information does not find who prepared the detonation and what its direct nonsubjective was. Various motives appear among the versions under consideration, so a fair assessment must wait for evidence.
Kremlin leads its own information war
Moscow is attempting to usage the tragedy to put all the West under the work of actions that have not been demonstrated. This procedure is politically readable. Russia wants to present its own war against Ukraine as a defence against NATO, although the Russian army launched a full-scale invasion and has been hitting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure for years.
However, propaganda must not be responded to by ignoring Russian victims. civilian protection laws apply to all side. If an investigation demonstrates the participation of circumstantial persons or services, work should be determined individually, without collective charges and without political abbreviations.
Poland needs facts, not Russian narrative
For Poland, the safety of the east flank of NATO and the opposition to information operations are at stake. Warsaw cannot accept the Kremlin's accusations on faith, but it should closely follow the evidence and defend the state from attempts to carry war on the territory of the Alliance states.
Russian diplomacy will usage tragedy to force the West and weaken support for Ukraine. The Polish answer must be calm and tough: respect for innocent victims, request for full investigation and rejection of claims that have not been confirmed. National interest present requires information discipline, due to the fact that another people's propaganda cannot find Polish safety policy.
