Subsequent agreements improving the “Sleep” have been signed since the end of last year. 3 months ago, the War Port Command in Gdynia reported that specialists from the PGZ War Shipyard will be working on repairing the IPMS platform management system. The value of the works was calculated at PLN 1.3 million. – This is 1 of the most crucial elements of the unit – admits kmdr Piotr Smela, commander of the Battleship Squadron 3 Fleet Ships in Gdynia. “It allows to monitor and control the work of another key systems,” he adds. Repairs continue. According to assumptions, they should be finalised by the end of April.
On the another hand, at the turn of February and March, 3 more contracts with a full value of nearly PLN 5 million were concluded. They concern the repair of the exhaust pipes, but besides the revision of the main engines – it is customarily carried out after 3 1000 hours of operation – and the reproduction of standards allowing them to be operated for another 24 1000 hours. any of these works have already started. – They are conducted at the port of war. The scope of the work did not require the ‘Slazak’ to be redirected to the shipyard, explains kmdr Smela.
The renovations will last for the next fewer months. We presume that in the second half of the year the ship will return to duty. According to the first assumptions, rocket launchers intended to fire air and water targets are expected to appear on the “Sleep”. In addition, the unit should be equipped with flying unmanned and... equipment capable of combating this kind of drone. "There is simply a preliminary marketplace consultation on this issue. We complete offers from companies curious in carrying out works. They will then be submitted to the method Modernisation Council. There will be further decisions – explains Colonel Grzegorz Polak, spokesperson for the Armed Forces Agency.
– From our point of view, the reinforcement and modernisation of the “Silver” is highly important. But no substance what, we want the ship back on track as shortly as possible. It has a very good radar, artillery and even in the current configuration it is simply a useful platform for the Navy – points out kmdr Smela.
