The airport in Rumi was established in 1931 as the office of the Polish Aeroclub of Gdańsk. The authorities of the Free City of Gdańsk did not then give approval to the Polish Aeroclub to usage the airport in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz. With the expansion of the airport infrastructure in Rumi, it besides became a transport airport. The operation of Gdynia Airport in Rumi-Zagórz was officially and solemnly inaugurated on 1 May 1935. Initially, LOT maintained a fixed line to Warsaw-Okęcia, and shortly after and to Krakow. As early as 1939, Rumi could fly to Rome, Copenhagen, Belgrade, Budapest or Venice. From Gdynia to Rumi you could then get by bus or train.
