A sharp exchange of views between Polish abroad minister Radosław Sikorski and the Hungarian diplomat chief Péter Szijártó has warmed up on platform X. The conflict started after Sikorski criticized Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who according to the Polish minister "made Hungary the poorest country of the European Union". The Hungarian minister accused Sikorski of "inciting war" and losing his sanity.
The exchange of entries began on Friday, erstwhile Sikorski wrote on X that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán "made Hungary the poorest country of the European Union, and now threatens to leave it". The Polish minister added that he was not afraid of this threat, due to the fact that Orbán "for years, in coordination with Putin, the Union sabotages".
"I observe: this is what theft and nationalism lead to" - Sikorski wrote. In response, Shijjártó stated on the same platform that Sikorski "by incitement to war seemingly lost his sanity".
Sikorski resembles the past of Budapest
Sikorski did not stay indebted to the Hungarian Minister and referred to his entry on Friday evening. "Peter, Budapest was captured twice by the Red Army in the 20th century, so I anticipate you to have any compassion for the brave nation that resists it today" - wrote the Polish minister.
"I confess that I would alternatively be a supporter of Ukraine than have a medal than Putin" - added Sikorski. As the media reported, in 2021 Vladimir Putin granted the Shijjártó Order of relationship in designation of his "great contribution to the improvement of bilateral relations".
Orbán on a possible exit from the EU
The Prime Minister of the Hungarian Government Viktor Orbán in an interview given on Thursday said, among another things, that "there is theoretically a point beyond which it is no longer worth being part of the Community." Orbán, however, warned that "for now he does not see specified a point".
The pro-government weekly "Mandiner" described the entry of the Polish abroad Minister "a declaration of war against Orban". Orban's government remains in sharp conflict with Prime Minister Donald Tuski and his environment.
Romanowski’s case aggravates the crisis
In December 2024 Budapest granted asylum to Marcin Romanowski, the politician of the Law and erstwhile Deputy Minister of Justice. Romanowski is charged with irregularities in the actions of the Justice Fund.
On 15 July, Polish ambassador Sebastian Kęciek, who was called "for an unlimited consultation in Warsaw" after Hungary granted asylum to Romanowski, finished his work in Hungary. MFA spokesperson Paweł Wroński assured on Thursday that Kęciek's completion of his work as an ambassador results from "normal rotation" in this position.
On Thursday, Minister Szijjártó declared that Hungary, despite political disputes, has a vital interest in good cooperation with Poland. However, he added that he thought that "the current authorities in Warsaw do not have specified a interest".
