SEW delegation on a survey visit to Armenia

On 21-23 November 2023, the delegation of the east European Studies University held a number of survey visits to public institutions, educational institutions or memorial sites in the Republic of Armenia.

The main nonsubjective of the task was to establish a broadly understood academic and technological cooperation between the University of Warsaw and investigation institutions in Armenia. As part of the visit, the delegation of SEW University held a number of meetings with many representatives of the Armenian planet of science, as well as a gathering with the Polish Ambassador in Yerevan, JE Piotr Skwiecinski.

The visit consisted of the following activities and activities:

  • Visit to Armenian Genocide Institute-MuseumArmenian Genocide Museum & Institute and tribute to the victims of the Armenian genocide in 1915 Tsitsernakaberd.
  • Meeting with representatives University of America in Yerevan.
  • Meeting for State University of Yerevan ԵՊՀ – Yerevan State University on the improvement of common investigation cooperation and scholarship offers for students and young researchers.
  • Visit to Մատենադարան – Matenadaran – investigation Institute and simultaneously a repository of Armenian manuscripts.
  • Meeting with those active in Polish Union in Armenia 'Polonia' and teachers teaching Polish in Armenia.

There was besides a place in the programme for hard topics – concerning social and political tensions in Armenia, as a consequence of the fresh operation of the Azerbaijani forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The consequences of the conflict and the associated mass exodus of Armenian people, delegates of the SEW UW, were discussed by Armen Ghazaryan – Head of the Migration Service of Armenia.

An highly crucial gathering was a visit to the Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and athletics of the Republic of Armenia with the president Committee on Higher Education and Science, Ministry of Education – Sargis Hajocyan, who presented the scope of global cooperation between the Commission and its priorities, including the integration of researchers from Armenia into the global investigation area and the engagement of abroad scientists in the grant programmes presently implemented by the Commission.

During the meeting, Jan Malicki presented a scholarship offer for the University of Warsaw's east European Studies for the academic year 2024-2025 for students and young scientists from east European countries and the South Caucasus, which are intended primarily for investigation in the field of humanities and social sciences, in peculiar past and current events in Central and east Europe.

As a consequence of the meeting, agreements were reached on further support for bilateral academic and technological mobility, common awareness of current programmes carried out by the parties and the anticipation of joint events, conferences and discussions in the field of discipline and higher education.

Member of the SEW delegation headed by the director. Jan Malicki entered: Prof. Helena Krasowska, Dr. Lida Nedilsky, Dr. David Kolbaia, Dr. Max Rust, Daria Szlezyngier and Diana Brutyan.
