During Prime Minister Donald Tusk's visit to the Netherlands, connected with celebrations commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation from the German occupation, there was a dangerous incident. Towards the scene where the head of the Polish government was present, a red flare was thrown. The situation required immediate intervention by safety services.

It is truly impossible to talk about this without emotion, especially since this war has been going on for over a 1000 days and has cost lives or wellness of more than a million people – including civilians and innocent children – died.



– The time of carefree comfort of Europe, joyful carelessness, is over. Today, the time has come for European mobilisation around our fundamental values and our security," indicated the Polish Prime Minister.

The Netherlands was attacked by Germany on May 10, 1940 and after a fewer days of fighting was forced to surrender. The business continued until liberation in 1945 and was highly brutal, especially towards the judaic population – most Dutch Jews were deported and murdered in extermination camps.

During the occupation, the Germans introduced severe repression, restricted freedom of speech, and the economy was subject to the interests of the 3rd Reich.
