The largest Greenlandic telecommunications company, Tusass, lost contact with its satellite equipment located in Maspalomas, Spain after a massive power failure occurred there the erstwhile day.
According to a message on the company's website, Tussas examines whether the origin of the failure is simply a power outage.
"At the moment, our hardware in Maspalomas, Spain, was lost, through which we supply services to our customers in the area of satellite coverage," said the company in a press release.
According to the company, its satellite clients do not have access to mobile, Internet, television, radio and text services.
On Monday at 12:30 a.m., a large-scale power failure occurred on almost the full territory of Spain. Energy network operator Red Eléctrica reported that it would take up to 10 hours to reconstruct power. The break besides affected Portugal, France and Andorra. Due to the power outage, all railway services had to be stopped. This besides affected public transport in cities where the traffic signal was not operating. There were queues in the supermarkets, and people had to be rescued from blocked elevators. All atomic power plants in the country have been safely shut down. The origin of the failure is presently being investigated. The head of the European Council, António Costa, said that there was no information that power outages in Spain could have been the consequence of cyber attacks.
