In fresh years, the Wagner Group has importantly increased its presence in Africa, becoming an extension of the Kremlin's interests. Mercenaries engaged in many conflicts, seeking to grow their influence and challenge Western countries. To accomplish this, the Wagnerists established relationships with selected governments (Juntas) offering, among another things, military training, assistance in the fight against terrorism and safety for the rulers, in exchange for political influence, ease of entry into the local marketplace and mining concessions.
