"Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban has over the past fewer years turned his country from democratic to autocratic. It is no secret that Donald Trump considers the political strategy in Hungary to be a function model," writes Sophie Pornschlegel in an analysis published on Thursday in the diary Tagesspiegel.
‘Shaking sword’
The author recalled Orban's words made on Trump's day of office as president of the United States: "It's time to take over Brussels." These words should not be regarded as simply ‘shake shaking’, she warned.
Sophie Pornschlegel pointed out the function played by the "ultra conservative" think tank Heritage Foundation in America. The Foundation prepared a task 2025 study for Trump's second term, which, according to the author, is simply a "plan to destruct American institutions".
The 900 pages of the paper contain precise plans to destruct many national offices, exit the U.S. from global organizations, abolish the tripartition of authorities and aggressive migration policy.
Currently, Heritage Foundation supports Hungarian and Polish partner organisations in developing a akin plan for the European Union. The author points out that in mid-March, the Polish Institute of Ordo Iuris and the Hungarian Mathias-Corvinus-Kolleg published a study "The large Reset", in which they describe the essential EU reforms. According to the author, at a closer look, the paper turns out to be a “plan to destruct the Union”.
"Democracy deficit"
The study draws attention to the "deficit of democracy" in the EU, the failure of national sovereignty and the concentration of power by the European Commission and the European Parliament. We are besides talking about policies "driven by ideology" and bureaucracy. The authors of the study propose to return to the European economical Community from 1957 or to transform the EU into an interstate organization specified as the UN.
"Both options mean EU demolition in practice", warned the author. Any decision could be blocked by a veto of a associate State, which would be the end of European cooperation.
Pornschlegel rejected as a "mistake in thinking" the right-wing foundation's claim that the EU limits national sovereignty. The EU's objective, as she stressed, is to bring together associate States' forces to increase their impact in the world. This allows them to have a stronger position in relations with the US or China.
"It is not amazing that the American right is eager to support the visions of Hungarian and Polish colleagues. The implementation of these plans would lead to an economical weakening of Europe and the request to comply with US interests," explains the author.
In Pornschlegel's opinion, a defence strategy is needed, especially since any of the problems mentioned by right-wing authors are real. advancement forces should urgently make an alternate plan. The fresh German government must strengthen the German-French partnership and revive the Weimar Triangle – the author, Vice-Chief Think Tank Europe Jacques Delors in Brussels, advocates.
