— We are dealing with a deep correction of American policy in the context of Ukrainian-Russian War. We must not be offended by reality. The U.S. has the right to form its strategies, but all country, including Poland, has the right and work to measure precisely what is in the interests of our safety and what may be a problem — said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a speech in the Sejm.
“Europe is beginning to realize that since the US is so committed, they anticipate determination, we should be able to do so,” said Tusk, referring to the agenda of the Thursday summit in Brussels. He spoke of a "breakdown" in the reasoning of the European Union.
The head of government convinced Members that Poland is inactive focusing on the most accurate relations with the US and NATO, but "hope is not adequate and will not replace the strategy".
There will be widespread military training. "Highest Time"
“ However, Prime Minister Tusk said little than I expected. I was hoping for a small more concrete details about what we're going to do, what we're going to do now, what we're going to buy most urgently and with whom, and what will be the changes in procedures concerning, for example, command at the operational level," says Onet Dr. Witold Sokała, an expert in global relations, a writer of the diary of Legal Newspaper.
— I wanted to hear what we truly want to do as a Poland in a situation where the foundations of our safety policy so far can collapse,” he stresses.
— It was very crucial what the Prime Minister said about the implementation of a military training program for all adult man. You'd say it's about time. And it's a good thing that after a while he looked back and included women. There are good examples of the Israeli army and the Nordic states, notes Dr. Sokała.
He stresses that the Prime Minister's call was entirely justified to simply get to work in the face of the U.S. turning distant from Europe.
“I do not know and I am not certain that this appeal will scope all Polish politicians. due to the fact that we can already see that there are politicians, not only in Poland, who think that it is adequate to shout and “it will do itself”. Or even worse, those who think that these cries are just a question of polling posts, that “hell is gone”, and our planet is inactive a peaceful and safe place. These are dangerous dreams, says the expert.
“For better or worse, politicians are politicians. And, despite the weight of the Prime Minister's words and the minute we're at, they're inactive going to have a bar fight. However, I hope that by playing these position games, politicians will at least not be officials and generals liable for safety to spoil a occupation that is urgently to be done, says Dr. Sokała.
NATO's key east flank. "Without American potential, we cannot defend these countries"
In his view, it was crucial and right that Prime Minister Tusk put large emphasis on the request for urgent reinforcement of the flank of east NATO and the states belonging to the Union which could be straight threatened by Russia.
— We are talking about Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, almost all of Scandinavia and, of course, Romania. The second has a very close war and is much weaker than Poland,” says Dr. Sokała.
— There's a problem with this east Alliance flank. due to the fact that present the situation is that without American possible we cannot defend these countries. In this sense, Prime Minister Tusk's spell that transatlantic cooperation is inactive crucial, makes deep sense. But the problem is that 2 sides are needed to cooperate, says Onetu.
— Fortunately, as far as America and the east flank are concerned, we have nothing but words for now. Disturbingly, and very much, however, the U.S. is not yet making any real moves that would destruct the east flank and its defence. So it is wise not to spoil it with your own hands,” says the expert.
— I think that many people would like to simply resent America, which has begun to underestimate Europe. But that would be destructive for us, due to the fact that we would face Putin, ourselves, incapable to defend ourselves for now. Its own capacity needs to be developed at an express pace,” she notes.
We ask the expert how he evaluates President's request to include in the Constitution the work to allocate 4% of GDP to defence: — From the point of view of constitutional logic, as out of respect for the importance of this document, I will say plainly that specified a postulate is nonsense,” he replies. In his opinion, the provision will be easy to circumvent by adding expenditure to the MON budget for completely different purposes. It is simply a "political-propagandist gesture, meaningless in practice".
