Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: Solidarity meant the dream of freedom, the desire of a just, sovereign and free Poland

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki took part in the celebrations of the 43rd anniversary of the Jastrzębski Agreement. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the August 1980 events. The situations that took place at the time were a fight for solidarity, freedom and equal Poland. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki besides announced the government's support in building a memorial pavilion of Jastrzębski Agreements. Our government supports miners and the mining industry.

We are utilizing powerful resources for a fair transformation of manufacture and energy transformation. Our government cares about miners. We see that the energy transformation of the extractive and energy industries requires our peculiar attention.

– We allocate billions of PLN from the Polish state's budget to a fairer transformation of industry, an energy transformation in the broad sense of the word," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The Memorial Pavilion of Jastrzeże Understanding

We should cherish the August 1980 events. This is simply a very crucial part of the history, which had a immense impact on the present Poland. Therefore, we want to accelerate work on the creation of the Jastrzębsko settlement pavilion. Our government will support this project. We will cherish the courage of the Silesian miners and the greatness of those events

– The Polish government will contribute to the creation of this large memorial centre, a memorial centre about those days, about Jastrzębski Agreements," said the Prime Minister.

Anniversary of signing the Jastrzębski Agreement

The Jastrzębskie Agreement was signed on 3 September 1980. 1 of his merits was to win free Saturdays for all Polish workers.

– It is our government that is the depositary of the ideals of Solidarity. We are those who strive to prosecute these ideals, starting with the large revolution of social dignity – from social policy, which only in a nutshell is included in our activities: 500+, in the expedition, 13th and 14th pensions, tax-free pensions and large another our social programs – stressed the head of government.

The Jastrzębskie Agreement was a complement to the August Agreements concluded in 1980 between the communist authorities and strikers in Szczecin and Gdańsk.

To the demands made by crews of strikers on the Coast, the Strike Committee at KWK “July Manifesto” has joined its own on pay, social and surviving matters, as well as management and organisation of work. Among those approved by the government of the Polish People's Republic and recorded in the protocol are:

  • raising earnings in close relation to the increase in surviving costs,
  • introduction of free Saturdays and Sundays,
  • introduction of a minimum and maximum wage ceiling,
  • reducing the retirement age for bottom workers.
