Presidential election 2025. Who can vote?

The presidential elections in Poland will take place in 2 months and their participation depends on gathering certain conditions. Everyone is not entitled to vote, and any restrictions may be a surprise. What rules apply in this year's elections and who will not be able to vote?

The presidential election date is May 18, 2025, according to tradition on Sunday. Setting a vote for the day off is aimed at expanding attendance and facilitating citizens' participation in elections.

High attendance is an crucial component of a democratic process, as it ensures that the President's election reflects the will of as many citizens as possible. In the erstwhile 2020 elections in the first round, attendance was 64.51 percent and in the second 68.18 percent. Who has the right to vote?

Where to vote: where to stay or check in?

Standard vote takes place in a peripheral electoral commission assigned to the place of permanent residence. In the case of temporary stay in another place, it is possible to add voters to the list in the current location. A request to change the voting place shall be submitted to the applicable municipal office.

Persons residing outside their permanent residence on election day may benefit from respective solutions:

  • Voting rights certificate – allows you to vote anywhere in the country or abroad. An application for a certificate shall be submitted to the municipality office where the voter is listed.
  • Listing of voters – if the place of residence on the day of the election is known earlier, you can apply for a list of voters in that location. This application shall be submitted no later than 5 days before the elections.

Polish citizens abroad can vote in the circuits created by Polish consulates. For this intent a prior notification of a want to participate is necessary in the consul's election and supply the required data.

Specific voting rules

For any electorate groups special voting circuits. They are created in:

  • hospitals,
  • social services homes,
  • prisons and detention.

Persons residing in these facilities shall be automatically entered on the electoral roster in a given circuit.

Students can vote at the place of study, subject to prior listing of voters in this location.

Soldiers and officers serving on election day may vote in the circuitry set up in military units, if any.
