Six Ka-32A11BC helicopters were purchased by the Portuguese government from the Russian Federation in 2006 for an amount of nearly EUR 348 million. This chopper is simply a civilian version of earlier Ka-27PS. The Portuguese wanted to usage them primarily to transport personnel and extinguish fires. However, the maintenance of these helicopters became an expanding challenge, due to the problems with servicing the rigs. During the Covid-19 pandemic, and then the war in Ukraine, the supply of parts to helicopters broke down, and as a consequence of sanctions, the Russian service squad Ka-32A11BC was expelled from Portugal and their maintenance centre in Ponte de Sor closed. As a result, Ka-32 helicopters are not utilized and only charge the Portuguese budget. The Ukrainian side is aware of the current state of viroplanes, but they will nevertheless be adapted. For Ukrainians, first of all, the efficiency and velocity of transportation are important.
