On Thursday, the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs called on Iranian Ambassador Eisa Kameli to express his deep concern at the brutal suppression of social protests in Iran. The MFA called for a halt to force against demonstrators and for dialogue, citing Poland's own historical experience.

The ministry has given the ambassador "deep concern about the Iranian authorities' reaction to fresh events, especially the expanding number of victims and arrested". A message published on the X platform highlighted that protests have been going on for more than 2 weeks.

The MFA took a clear stance on the methods utilized by the authorities in Tehran. "Poland, due to its historical experience, is assured that force against manifestations of freedom of speech, association or peaceful manifestations is unacceptable and is not an effective means of achieving political goals," wrote the ministry.

Poland besides asked Iran for dialogue. "Recognising the value of circumstantial historical Polish-Iranian relations, Poland calls for the cessation of force against protesters and for dialogue", the MFA noted.

At the same time, the Ministry reiterated its appeal to Polish citizens residing in Iran to leave the country immediately.

Protests and their scale

Demonstrations in Iran began on 28 December due to a rapidly deteriorating economical situation. Protests rapidly spread across the country and became 1 of the largest anti-regime appearances in years.
