The U.S. Department of Defence is preparing a reorganization plan that aims to lower the rank of European Command (EUCOM) and African and mediate East Commands. As reported by the "Washington Post", this is part of the strategy of the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, to reduce the number of four-star generals and shift strategical focus to the Western Hemisphere. Ultimately, the number of regional commanders is expected to fall from eleven to eight.
