Changes are being prepared for passengers travelling by trains across Poland with Lithuania and Germany. This is the effect of border controls that have been in force again since 7 July.


As of Monday, July 7, border controls with Germany and Lithuania are re-established. They are temporary and will last until at least 5 August. This means changes in border traffic, They must be prepared not only for drivers of passenger cars and trucks, but besides for passengers of global trains.

PKP has an crucial message for travellers


The PKP issued a peculiar communication on this matter. The carrier recalls that from 7 July each passenger crossing the border should have a valid identity card. It was pointed out that this could not be an electronic version, specified as a paper in the mCitizen application.

"We ask you to carry with you crucial identity papers and follow the instructions of border services and train staff," says the release.

It was besides noted that the services are ready to carry out the inspection and that the full procedure should not affect the punctuality of trains. However, travelers are asked to be alert and to track current messages at stations and on trains.

The information provided by the Ministry of Interior and Administration shows that the checks will cover 11 global trains operated by PKP Intercity. 10 of them cross the border with Germany (in the Frankfurt nad Odra – Rzepin section), and 1 across the border with Lithuania (Trakiszki – Mockava).

As we wrote on Temat.pl, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced last week that it was decided to temporarily reconstruct the control at the Polish border with Germany and Poland with Lithuania.

– This morning our briefing took place with the Border Guard, Polish Army and Police. The subject was the situation at the border with Germany – and the examination of the request for temporary reintroduction of border control. We decided that we are restoring temporary control at the Polish-German border and Poland with Lithuania – he informed.

As he pointed out, the introduction of controls aims to limit illegal border crossings by migrants.

Since the end of June, alleged civic patrols began operating along the border with Germany. Formed by supporters of the utmost right, the group declares that their aim is to prevent illegal migration from Germany to Poland.
