PGZ builds ammunition sovereignty

Three ammunition factories will be established in the Polish Armed Forces Group, and the investment will include the expansion of existing centres and the construction of fresh technological lines. This was announced present by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of National Defence. In a fewer weeks we will besides meet the supplier of 155 mm ammunition production technology for PGZ-et.

– Sovereignty Manufacture of ammunition is an absolute precedence for the Polish government, this is simply a substance of state strategy for many years and thank you for the fact that this process has accelerated in fresh months – he said at the office Polish Armed Forces Group in Warsaw Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during a briefing devoted to plans to build national sovereignty in the field of ammunition production.

According to the plans of the MON, Poland must importantly increase the production of ammunition, especially 155 mm caliber missiles, which are powered by the main weapons of Polish artillerymen, namely the Krab and K9. “You cannot build real safety without your own weapons industry,” stressed the head of the MON.
He added that PGZ is 1 of the largest arms producers in the planet today, a key partner not only for the Polish Army but besides for allies in Europe.

At the same time, the Minister of Defence announced the construction of 3 ammunition factories within the PGZ-et. The investment is to cover the expansion of existing production centres and the construction of fresh technological lines, in which elements of large caliber ammunition will be created. The preparatory work is already underway.

– Through the model of 3 factories, we focus on diversified, dispersed, safe and, above all, autonomous production for the Polish army and strengthening safety – he stated in turn Adam Leszkiewicz, president of PGZ-etu. Konrad Golota, Deputy Minister of State Assets, argued that this concept was a thoughtful imagination which meant maximum usage of the competences of individual establishments.

Each mill will specialize in another area of ammunition production. As explained at the conference, the first 1 is to produce specified missiles as before, i.e. to cannonhaubic Krab, with the presumption of expanding their number to 100,000 pieces per year. The second plant will focus on the production of a fresh generation of projectiles for cannonhaubic and K9 in number up to 80 1000 pieces per year. On the another hand, the third, the alleged Powder House, will produce a fresh generation of drugs and charges for large caliber ammunition.

For the first 2 projects, which will be carried out mainly by Dezamet and Mesko, the Polish Armed Forces Group has already obtained PLN 2.4 billion from the State Investment Fund controlled by the Ministry of Assets. "In the coming weeks it is planned to submit an application to the FIK to fund the implementation of the Prochownia", PGZ said.

Let's remind, last week, PGZ received PLN 2.4 billion of government backing for the expansion of national production of large caliber ammunition. The measures will enable ammunition companies to grow infrastructure, optimise production and increase supplies of ammunition to the military. The investments will consist of adaptation and expansion of buildings and the acquisition of specialised machinery and equipment essential for production on the assumed scale.

The support was given to 4 entities in the arms sector: Metalworks “Desamet” SA, which will receive PLN 1,358 billion for the improvement of 155 mm projectile production, Mesko SA – PLN 887 million to increase the production capacity of projectile bodies, Chemical plants ‘Nitro-Chem’ SA – PLN 113 million for fresh technological lines for the debacle of the same calibre and peculiar Production Plant „Gamrat” sp. z o.o. – PLN 66 million for the construction of an installation for the production of gas generators.

As president Leszkiewicz stated during the briefing, the PGZ besides completed the analysis of offers in terms of selection of 155 mm ammunition production technology supplier. “After marketplace analysis, we have selected possible partners. We have a fewer weeks of negotiations ahead of us – said the President. He added that PGZ-et wanted to get technology and full intellectual rights. The condition for the acquisition of the licence is full autonomy in the manufacture of large caliber ammunition.

The Polish Armed Forces Group informed that the key factors taken into account in the analysis and negotiation process for selecting the 155 mm technology supplier were the autonomy in terms of production, the sovereignty of the supply chain and the anticipation of making full usage of the existing possible and competences of PGZ-et.
According to the agenda from 2028, PGZ-etu companies are expected to produce 150–180,000 large caliber ammunition each year.
