Citadel Day – Festival of Polish swords at the MWP

Last Sunday at the Museum of the Polish Army came under the sign of a peculiar vacation – Citadel Day, which was dedicated to 1 of the most iconic weapons in the past of Poland – sabres. The event attracted crowds of visitors, offering them not only a rich programme of attractions, but besides an breathtaking gathering with the past that revived in the walls of the Warsaw Citadel. The Museum of the Polish Army proved that it can combine tradition with modernity, providing the audience with unforgettable impressions.

The Sword – a symbol of the weapon and the national spirit

At the centre of the event there was a sabre – a weapon which permanently entered the past of Polish weaponry and national identity. Referring to the words "What did abroad force take us away, with a saber", the museum celebrated its symbolic dimension, presenting a spectacular Polish sabre tournament, equestrian shows of the typical Squadron of the Polish Army Cavalry, as well as fencing performed by enthusiasts in historical costumes. The horse shows evoked the spirit of the cavalry of the First Republic, and the anticipation of covenanting Hussar armor and wielding sabres allowed participants to feel the climate of the past era even more strongly.

Historical reconstructors presented the craftsmanship of the drill and the fire fighting of the infantry from the time of August the Strong, and the squad “La Danse” moved the participants to the royal court of the Polish-Saxon union – 1 could not only watch but besides dance historical menuttes.
