President Andrzej Duda delivered a message on fresh Year's Eve.
“We are dealing with a fresh situation in Polish politics. The president and the government are from another political camps. It's average in democracy. But in democracy 1 must respect the Constitution, the principles of the regulation of law and good political customs," said Duda. "Unfortunately, in fresh days, a government coalition trying to take over public media has broken these rules. For the first time in free Poland after 1989 there was an effort to take over public media force, the tv signal of any channels was disabled, and information programs ceased broadcasting. Finally, Polish Television, Polish Radio and Polish Press Agency were put in liquidation.
– I would like to make this clear: the rulers can improvement public media, but this must be done legally. I have always been and I am open to specified a discussion about legal changes. On my part, however, there will never be approval to violate the Constitution. And this is the situation we are presently dealing with – the head of state continued. – Another announcements of crucial decisions by means of parliamentary resolutions are besides of serious concern. The resolutions of the Sejm do not have the legal power to form the basis for action by state authorities with consequences for citizens. specified actions are besides blatantly contrary to the Constitution. If we agree to these practices today, any fresh parliamentary majority will be able to do so in the future.
– As the president of the Republic, I will stand up to specified actions with all my power. I so call on the Government Coalition to start following the principles of a democratic regulation of law and to respect citizens regardless of their political views. These should be your political fresh Year's resolutions!' added Duda. "It must be made clear: legal chaos and interior conflict in Poland leads to a weakening of our state and consequently a weakening of our security. We've been through this before. I remember her perfectly, due to the fact that I was a minister at the Chancellery of president Lech Kaczyński erstwhile Donald Tusk was previously the head of the government. I learned my lesson from that situation. I am ready to cooperate on the most crucial issues for Poland, but I am besides prepared for the situation that the government will not want specified cooperation!
