On Thursday morning in Budzsko, on the border with Lithuania, officers from the Podlaskie Border defender Branch detained a Ukrainian citizen suspected of organizing an illegal crossing of the border. The incidental occurred at a temporary checkpoint.
The man was driving a passenger car and volunteered for a check-in for the entry into Poland. There were 3 Somali citizens in the vehicle. Women did not have the papers to enter and stay in Poland. Only passes issued at a abroad institution in Latvia have been shown.
Decision to refuse entry
In the absence of the required travel documents, 3 Somali citizens received a decision not to enter Poland. In accordance with the procedures in force, they were subsequently forwarded to the Lithuanian side.
A Ukrainian citizen was detained and heard the charge of organizing an illegal border crossing. According to the law, up to 8 years of imprisonment is punishable for this act. The court decided to apply three-month interim detention to the suspect.
Controls at the Polish-Lithuanian border
Stopping in Budzsko is another intervention after restoring temporary control at the Polish-Lithuanian border. The checks have been in force since 7 July 2025.
Since then, officers of the Podlaskie Border defender Branch have detained 51 people suspected of participating in organizing an illegal crossing of the border. Within the readmission procedure, nearly 290 people were transferred to the Lithuanian side.
During the same period 578 foreigners were refused entry to Poland. The most common reason was the deficiency of valid travel documents, visas or residence permits. The Border defender stresses that controls are aimed at preventing illegal migration and ensuring border security.
