New exhibition in Warsaw. After 350 years, outstanding works were shown.

On Wednesday, November 5, at the Academy of Fine Arts, a collection of sacred art painting was presented. “Thesaurus. Baroque painting from the monastery of the Sisters of Visits in Warsaw” is simply a collection of works which for centuries have been hidden in monastery halls close Krakowskie Przedmieście. Most of them were never presented to a wider audience.

The paintings in the monastery belong to 1 of the most prominent collections of art in Poland. Especially objects from the 17th and 18th centuries, frequently for legacys of the kings of Poland – Waza and Sobieski, and donations of individuals and another gatherings. The most many are paintings of Flemish artists, including those operating in Italy and Spain as well as representatives of Italian and Polish schools of the 17th century. The extraordinary works, which for centuries remained hidden in the monastery halls, have been completely renewed thanks to the commitment and passion of distinguished specialists and specialists from the Department of Conservation and Restaurant of Art Works of ASP under the direction of Dr. Anna Dorota Potocka, prof. of the university.

Film documentation of the renovation process

As we read on the website Academy of Fine Arts, in the exhibition you can admire images from the royal collection Louisi Maria Gonzagi and her successive husbands from the Vase dynasty – Władysław IV and John IIof legacy Jan III Sobieski and families Sieniawski, Czartoryski, Oginski and Potocki.

The authors include Italian, Flemish, French and Polish masters, among others creators associated with the workshops of Broughl, Rubens and Gerard Seghers. The central site of the exhibition is monumental "The laying to the grave" by Camilla Procaccini. This is simply a work from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries – an artist whose works combine the expression of mannerism with the harmony of early Baroque.

The exposition combines art, past and spirituality. It reveals not only the beauty and expression of old performances, but besides the scenes of conservationists' work. On site is presented film documentation of the renovation process, which reveals any of the actions taken by the ASP squad under the direction of Dr. Potocka. It is besides worth noting that investigation and maintenance have been co-financed from funds Mazovia Provincial Monument Conservationist.

The exhibition was opened on Wednesday, November 5. Works collected in Czapski Palace, at Krakowskie Przedmieście 5, you can admire for just over 2 weeks – until 23 November 2025. Below the beginning time:

  • Mondays: closed,

  • Tuesday to Sunday: 12:00 to 19:00.

The entrance to the exhibition is free.
