President Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday that he would not accept the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 2024 election triggered a fast reaction by respective leading business leaders and trade groups.
“It was the top honor of my life to service as your president,” wrote Biden. "And while I was going to search re-election, I think it is in the interests of my organization and my country that I should step down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president until the end of my term."
In his second post on the X platform aimed at Democrats, Biden expressed his support for Vice president Kamala Harris as organization candidate. He wrote that Harris' election was his “first decision as organization candidate in 2020” and “it was the best decision I had made.”
"Today I want to offer full support to Kamala to become a candidate for our organization this year. Democrats – it is time to unite and defeat Trump. Let's do it," said Biden, calling for unity of the organization after his withdrawal from the nomination.

Elon Musk
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who publically supported erstwhile Trump president after surviving an assassination effort on his life last week, wrote in a post on X that he would proceed to support a Republican candidate despite Biden's withdrawal from the race.
"My wisest friends, including those surviving in the San Francisco Bay area who have been Democrats throughout their lives, are excited about Trump/Vance," wrote Musk on X. "I believe in America, which maximizes individual freedom and merit. It utilized to be the Democratic Party, but now the pendulum has passed to the Republican Party.”
