Germany proposes to decision distant from the rule of unanimity in EU abroad policy

The head of the German MFA Johann Wadephul presented proposals for EU reforms on Wednesday in Berlin to increase its ability to act.

He proposed, among another things, a departure from the rule of unanimity in Community abroad policy to a qualified majority.

Wadephul argued that in safety matters, the rule of unanimity could “throw us into an existential threat”.
