Germany and atomic deterrence: dialog with France with US guarantees

On 13 February, in an article for the "Foreign Affairs" bimonthly and during the Munich safety Conference, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) confirmed that Germany and France are having talks on atomic deterrence in Europe. The possible arrangements are intended to be complementary to the NATO atomic sharing programme, in line with the legal global obligations of the RFN, not to make different safety zones in Europe and to contribute to strengthening the European pillar of the Alliance.
