On 20 November, comprehensive civilian protection and crisis management exercises were conducted at the Industrial Water Treatment Plant. The task was attended by representatives of local emergency services and urban institutions.
The training was besides attended by soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces sub-division from the 201st industrial defence battalion of the border forming part of the 20th Przemysl Territorial Defence Brigade. Their participation allowed realistic mapping of emergency consequence procedures.
The script of the action assumed an air attack on the chlorine barrel during unloading. The simulation provided for the detonation and the request to evacuate the workers, as well as the designation of 2 zones: a dangerous area and a place to decontamination. These sites were secured by soldiers of the Przemysl OT Battalion. The main nonsubjective of the exercise was to improve cooperation between the services liable for the safety of residents and to check procedures for incidents likely to affect the functioning of the key water supply infrastructure. The script included, among others:
• action in the event of a possible threat to the continuity of water supply,
• coordination of emergency services in the field,
• safety of the facility and its surroundings,
• organising interinstitutional communication and information to the public.
The joint exercises allowed applicable examination of the solutions adopted and confirmed the advanced preparation of the departments and staff of the Department for emergency response. The proposals will service to further improve safety and protection procedures for residents Przemysl and strengthening the sphere of military cooperation with civilian environment.
