During the first gathering of the recently elected Moldovan parliament, held on 22 October, the MPs re-elected the leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity organization (PAS) of Igor Gros to be president of the Chamber.

In the secret ballot, Grosu, who besides served in the erstwhile term, received 55 members' support. His countercandidate was erstwhile lawyer General Alexander Stoianoglo, exhibited by the opposition block “Alternativa”, who competed with Maia Sandu in the presidential election in October 2024. Stoianoglo received 32 votes.

President Maia Sandu, speaking at the inaugural parliamentary meeting, stressed that the main task of the fresh composition was to bring the country to membership of the European Union.

Let us remind that on 16 October the Moldovan Constitutional Court approved the results of the parliamentary elections. The fresh parliament will be attended by representatives of six groups: PAS (55 mandates), "Patriotic Blok" (26), "Alternatives" (8), as well as the parties "Our Party" and "Democracy at Home", which have obtained 6 mandates.
