Nawrocki made a decision on the 2026 budget. His decision triggered an avalanche of comments

Karol Nawrocki yet decided what he would do about the budget for 2026. The president of the Republic of Poland signed the bill, but in the process of follow-up control to the Constitutional Court. On social media, bitter words from Poles were sprinkled.


In the latest statement, which was announced by the social media, Karol Nawrocki stressed that the budget bill could not veto, so he signed it and at the same time referred it to the Constitutional Court.

– Despite my critical assessment of this budget, the Constitution does not give me the right to veto it. Taking into account all the arguments and competences I have presented, I decided to sign the budget bill, but at the same time I decided to direct it in follow-up control to the TK – explained the head of state.

According to Nawrocki, the budget presented to him is "a proof of a deep crisis of credibility, effectiveness and perpetuity" of the government of Donald Tusk. “This is simply a budget that shows helpless surrender to the challenges facing Poland. This is the budget of unfulfilled promises from the campaign, disappointed expectations of Poles. (...) It is simply a budget based on immense debt," he said.



Let us remind that last year Andrzej Duda besides signed the budget bill, and any of its provisions were sent to the Constitutional Court – in the same way as Nawrocki. The current president of Poland suggested that his decision is connected with the desire to defend the stableness of the state and the future of Poland. – I am signing (ed. – budgetary bill) due to the fact that the deficiency of a budget would not solve any of the problems we face," he added.

According to the budget bill for the current year, the state expenditure will amount to PLN 918.9 billion. The budget deficit will be no higher than PLN 271.7 billion and the gross of the state budget is expected to scope 647.2 billion. For national defence, the state plans spending worth over PLN 200 billion.

Comments from the President's decision on the budget


"President signed budget. Investment budget and evidence defence investments. The rest, including the referral of the bill to the TK, is simply a political theatre without real effects. We proceed to work," commented Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski.

Ko MP Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz wrote, "Karol Nawrocki signed the budget bill, but in order not to be sad PiS, he sent it to Bogdan Święczkowski. Funny!".

Under the entry of the Chancellery of the president of Poland on the X portal (ex-twitter) Poles reacted rather sharply to Nawrocki's last decision. "It reminds me of scenes from the movie 'Yourself'. Everyone's looking for a splinter in another eye. What about electricity prices? Let each of us focus on doing good duties," commented 1 of the net users.
