For any people, it's a way to kind things out and relieve their loved ones at a hard time. Others treat it as an investment - especially in cemeteries, where the number of vacancies is limited, and prices increase year by year. In the major cities there is even a bidding process, and in the secondary marketplace the amount reaches the level of housing.

Can you sale a place in the cemetery? A tomb can be more costly than a condo.
At the Rakowicki, Podgórski and Grębalowski Cemetery in Krakow, the right to the grave can be acquired through an authoritative auction organised by the Management Board of Municipal Cemetery. In 2024, those willing to participate in the bidding had to pay 2 1000 zlotys. The winner in turn was obliged to pay a fee for the right to usage the land under a brick grave - PLN 7991 for 50 years or PLN 14 1000 for 99 years. These are authoritative prices. In the secondary market, the amounts are rising. On OLX you can find an offer of sale of the place in Rakowice for PLN 89 thousand, or even PLN 120 thousand.
We have no influence on that, we do not form these prices. Nor can we make assessments here or enter into the decision-making freedom of individual directors. However, we have mechanisms to prevent the rotation of the dead graves.

Meanwhile, the authoritative prices, set by the Board of Municipal Cemetery, are importantly lower - from 8450 to 13 990 PLN per urn grave in life and from 7700 to 11 350 PLN per place on Northern and confederate necropolis.
