Head of the National Centre for Crisis Management of Lithuania, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, said today's meteorological raid of probes was the most intense this year.
“It is worth noting that this night was possibly the most intense this year, we have recorded a full of 42 cases on our radars,” quotes Vitkauskas LRT.
Let us remind you that on 27 January the airport in Vilnius was discontinued due to balloons. According to Vitkauskas, 8 balloons were found by morning, 4 people were detained and respective meteorological probes were besides found.
He stressed that the service was working intensively to detect smugglers. Vitkauskas did not regulation out that smugglers intensified their activities not without the cognition of the Belarusian side. He pointed out that six occurrences of weather probes from Belarus have already been recorded on radars this year.
“Of course, these were not as many as that night, it was most likely ten-twenty cases, it was a very tiny number and it had no effect on the safety of our airspace. But that night was peculiar and the airport was closed," the politician said.
