MID engineering and road machines aid safe military movement, build fortifications and towing combat vehicles under the most demanding conditions. The Gliwicki investigation and improvement Centre of Mechanical Devices late handed over the last of these Polish bomb tanks to the Polish military.
– MID Engineering and Road Machine leaves OBRUM and goes to service – informed on social media gliwicki Research and improvement Centre for Mechanical Devices (OBRUM). The company belonging to the Polish Armed Forces Group under the agreement of 2023 with the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate is liable for the main repair and modification of MIDs, which are equipped with the Polish army. The last of these vehicles was late delivered to our army.
As part of the work, the drive strategy was modified, expanding the power of the MID engine from about 780 to 850 hp, and the hydraulic system, adapting it to the fresh work equipment, with which the device was equipped (e.g. drill). Subsequent modifications concern: suspension lock, lighting and driver board of the machine, control systems and communication system. In addition, systems were adapted to position the existing plow and an APU unit, GPS navigation devices and camera strategy were introduced.
OBRUM emphasises that the modified MID allows to work, among others, in an intermediate region and in direct contact with the opponent, under different atmospheric conditions, in an area contaminated with atomic and chemical weapons or in natural and ecological disaster zones. The vehicle provides the crew with safety thanks, among others, to the utilized ballistic protection, filtration, fire protection, detonation detection and laser detection systems and protection against contamination.
"The machine's retrofitting importantly increased its functionality, as confirmed by the donation-received studies. It is another Polish engineering product, which will truly support soldiers on the front line, saving lives, equipment and infrastructure," OBRUM informs.
An engineering-road machine, in an improved version referred to as MID-2020, is simply a classical bomb tank built on a modified PT-91 tank chassis. ‘MID is designed to carry out key tasks in the field of combat, specified as securing military traffic, ground and fortification work, rescue and evacuation operations, mechanization of transhipment, release and towing of combat vehicles’, the company states.
The vehicle has a rich instrumentation, it has been equipped with, among others, a spigot device for frontal and double-sided work, a boom-manipulator with interchangeable equipment (a pitch spoon, jaw gripper, tooth ripper), 2 winches and a gas and electrical cutting and welding team.
