Why Romania and not Poland?
Romania is simply a key point of NATO operations in the Black Sea area. Since the outbreak of Russia's war in Ukraine, the country has regularly served as a place of training and safety mission. American combat and reflection aircraft regularly fly from Romania as part of NATO police operations.
In 2018 there was information that it was expected to be a peculiar base for American troops in Poland.
"We talked about the Fort Trump project, about the US military base in Poland. We want the US Army to be stationed in Poland to guarantee the safety of Poland and the full east flank of NATO" – said Mariusz Błaszczak, who at the time included the position of Minister of National Defence. He discussed the task with John Bolton, erstwhile U.S. President's advisor Donald Trump on National Security.
As we know today, Fort Trump was just empty promises that were doomed to failure from the beginning. Let us remind that Poland was to allocate $2 billion for this purpose, which during the COVID-19 pandemic was not available to us. Apart from this issue, it was the deployment of troops.
