Friedrich Merz presented an alarming diagnosis of the current relation between Europe and Russia during a gathering with the media in Duesseldorf. "Let me put it in a conviction that can be a small shocking at first glance...we are not at war, but besides not in a state of peace with Russia" - said the Chancellor of Germany.

According to Merz, Russian aggression goes far beyond the conflict with Ukraine. He described it as "a war against our democracy, a war against our freedom", stressing the threat to the foundations of the Western strategy of values.
