Hołd for “The Needle” alternatively of “The Fascist WiN Band”
In 2023, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the successful ambush of Lieutenant Tadeusz Zieliński's branch in the Skaryszewski Forest, unknown perpetrators at the site of the action installed a plaque commemorating “The Needle” and its soldiers. Earlier in the same place, the authorities of the Polish People's Republic placed a monument with an inscription, in which the branch of Tadeusz Zieliński was named “the Fascist WiN band”.
The branch of Lieutenant Tadeusz Zieliński, ps. “The Needle” on July 18, 1946, organized an ambush in the forest of Skuszewski, resulting in the death of Colonel Alfred Wnukowski (commander of the Rzeszowszczyń Armed Forces, liable for the demolition of the anti-communist underground) and respective soldiers from his guard.
One of the myths built around the action of the “Hungary” branch is the death of the wife of Colonel Wnukowski – Irena Sztejmach. She and respective soldiers were taken prisoner after the July action. The appointed guerrillas were to lead them through the forest toward Radom and after any time release. most likely the prisoners began to flee at 1 point, and the guerrillas opened fire on them. As a result, Wnukowski's wife was killed and respective soldiers managed to escape. In later communist propaganda, it was presented that Sztejmach was pregnant – in fact, she gave birth 3 months earlier. At first the communists accused “Igle” just that the kid remained without parents and only later changed the narrative, claiming that Polish independenceists murdered a pregnant woman. In the last year, writer tworadom.pl conducted an interview with a “murdered” child...
The erstwhile monument, unveiled in 1952, contained the inscription, “Hi and Glory to the CBW soldiers fighting for the fixation of folk power in Poland”, who “died at the hands of a band of fascist WiN.”
Let us remind you that the CWB was created on the model of the russian NKVD and was subject to the Ministry of interior Security. It was to be an elite unit, composed of people with the right views and completely devoted fresh power. For years, supported by the NKVD, the Polish Army, the safety Office or the Milicia, he led an armed fight against the Polish guerrillas who did not accept the post-war reality.
