Meet the Korczak Award Winners 2023

Mirosława Kątna, Anna Maria Wesołowska, Space Foundation for Girls, Warsaw Children's Hospice, Mariusz Kurnyta – Forest Man or Dominik Kuc are only any winners of this year's edition Janusz Korczak Awards, awarded by the Korczak University, educating staff in education and social policy. The statues were presented on 18 May at the Korczak Award Gala held at the POLIN Museum of Polish Jews in Warsaw. The peculiar Award was received by Janina Ochojska.

The second edition of the competition was influenced by more than 120 applications from all over the country. The Chapter awarded 13 Awards and awarded 12 consecutive winners. Public individuals guided by Korczak values, educational institutions and local leaders were awarded. The peculiar Award was awarded to Janina Ochojska and the Bureau Award was received by prof. Jacek Leociak for his technological achievements on the life and work of Janusz Korczak.

Prof. Mirosław Grewiński, Rector of Korczak University, says:

Janusz Korczak is simply a Polish sign in the planet achievements of education, which we are arrogant of. The prize of his name has 3 goals. She appreciates excellent Polish educational and social initiatives, supporting children and young people. It promotes institutions and leaders who work for modern education and kid rights at national and local level. It integrates and strengthens the community of people who, in their public activities, are guided by the values and ideas of Korczakowski. We would like to see as many people and institutions as possible. Recognizing them, honouring them and strengthening them is the main nonsubjective of the award we have set up.

In the category of public persons Awards them. Janusz Korczak received:

  • Mirosława Kątna, co-creator of the Children's Rights Protection Committee
  • Dr Konrad Ciesiołkiewicz, president of the Board of Orange Foundation
  • Anna Maria Wesołowska, a justice who has been active in the fight for children's rights for years

In the category local leaders of education were nominated 20 people, and Awards them. Janusz Korczak received:

  • Jakub Wygnański, a social activist, animator of the improvement and cooperation of the "third sector"
  • Mariusz Kurnyta, activist from the Polish-Belarusian borderland known as Man of the Forest
  • Dominik Kuc, activist, creator of LGBTQ+ relationship School Ranking
  • Prof. Mikołaj Spodaryk, pediatric physician, Head of the Department of Food Treatment of the University Children's infirmary in Kraków
  • Marta Florkiewicz-Borkowska, teacher from Pilgrimowice, creator of the action “Sad Eaters”

The following distinctions were awarded in this category:

  • Dr. Anna Krawczak, in vitro, adoption and replacement care expert
  • Kamila Olga Stępień-Reszel, pedagogue, psychologist, kid rights advocate from Gdańsk
  • Octavia Gorzeńska, leader of the implementation of changes in education
  • Patrycja Karykowska, teacher, librarian and social animator from Kielce
  • Marta Szymczyk from Łódź, teacher, author of the blog “Neszablona pedagogue”
  • Grzegorz Jach, police officer, theatre director, actor, educator

The nominations in the category "Institutions implementing Korczakovsky ideas" were highly numerous. The Chapter awarded the 5th Janusz Korczak Award.

  • School Complex No. 33 for Children and Youth Chronicly sick in Bydgoszcz
