NEW YORK- JetBlue Airways (B6) achieves a major milestone in its 25-year history by retiring the Embraer E190 after its final revenue flight, fully transitioning to an all Airbus fleet led by the A220-300.

This shift boosts efficiency, performance, and comfort, while honoring the E190’s role in expansion from focus cities like New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), where service began in 2005.

JetBlue Retires Embraer E190

JetBlue Airways retires the Embraer E190 following its last revenue flight, numbered 190, from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Customers, crewmembers, and invited guests aboard enjoyed festive gate-side events in both cities, commemorating nearly two decades of service.

Chief Operating Officer Warren Christie captained the flight, as he did for the inaugural one in 2005, joined by several original crewmembers.

“I am proud to operate today’s flight, as it marks a significant evolution of our fleet,” said Christie.

“The E190 was instrumental in our early years and proved to deliver on critical connectivity in short-haul markets, allowing us to grow into new regions, especially in our New York and Boston focus cities. As one of the originating crewmembers to launch the E190 at JetBlue, it is an honor to pilot our final E190 revenue flight.”

JetBlue became the first airline in the world to fly the Embraer E190, configured with 100 customer seats.

This aircraft expanded the airline’s reach, introducing millions of customers to its signature experience and cementing its reputation for friendly service and exceptional onboard comfort.

Advancing with Airbus A220

The E190 retirement aligns with JetBlue’s (B6) delivery of its 50th Airbus A220, with 52 of 100 ordered now in service.

This simplifies the fleet to Airbus A320 and A220 families, enhancing economics and customer experience.

The A220 unlocks new route possibilities, including transcontinental markets beyond the E190’s range, with lower operating costs and superior fuel efficiency supporting JetBlue’s financial goals and JetForward strategy.

Enhanced Passenger Features

JetBlue’s (B6) A220 cabins feature 140 Collins Meridian seats, offering the widest seats in the fleet, spacious overhead bins, custom seatback storage, in-seat power with AC, USB-A, and USB-C ports, extra-large windows, fast and free Fly-Fi, and personalized in-flight entertainment at every seat.
