Vitalija Mazurenko compared the actions of president Karol Nawrocki to the preservation of "pachan", a leader of gangsters in Russian prisons. These words had serious consequences and caused a storm. Their author is not an accidental character, but a reasonably celebrated Ukrainian journalist. What do we know about him? It's not the first time he's made a decision with his opinions.

Vitali Mazurenko has lived in Poland for years. In 2019 he received Polish citizenship from president Andrzej Duda. He's a lawyer by education, but he doesn't do his job. He utilized to work "on a headphone" in Warsaw, then he learned to talk Polish.

Who's Vitali Mazurenko who won Nawrocki?

Then he went towards journalism. The biography under the articles presents itself as: Deputy editor-in-chief of the portal "International Observer" and PhD student at Catholic University of Lublin. Both of these identities of a Ukrainian citizen are already obsolete. He lost his "OM" regulation yesterday, and KUL took him off his doctorate list years ago.

It is worth recalling that Mazurenko has already let a wider audience know about himself. In 2016, he criticized the premiere of the movie "Volyn". In his conversation with "Gazeta Wyborcza", he argued that the Volyn massacre affected not only Poles, but besides Ukrainians.

"Political discourse is business, not memory of events from respective decades ago. Supporting us is not about historical considerations, but about concrete cooperation between our countries. (...) I am afraid to cool down the relation and even hatred after "Volyn" entered the cinema. We go back 5 years. Besides, it's fuel for the anti-European right hand," he said at the time.

Mazurenko hit Nawrocki. This is what happened on Polsat News.

Meanwhile, the latest scandal with Mazurenko's words about Nawrock began with the announcement of the president of Poland at the beginning of this week, which indicated that he would not sign the law on aid to Ukrainians. This decision sparked utmost emotions among politicians, citizens and journalists.

On the air Polsat News on Agnieszka Gozdyra's show, Vitali Mazurenko besides hosted. Commenting on Nawrocki's step, he referred to it as "smelling". The word means "criminal leader in Russian prisons".

The leader herself did not hide surprise and admitted that to "insulting to the head of the Polish state". “You are comparing the Polish president to a individual in a prison environment,” she pointed out. Ukrainian writer disagreed. – I compare the behaviour of a peculiar person, does not want to undermine the institution of the President. His behaviour hits defenceless Ukrainian immigrants," he said.

Journalist faced severe consequences

The journalist's words met with a decisive consequence from the president's environment. The head of his law firm, Zbigniew Bogucki, wrote in social media that Mazurenko "should be publically prosecuted for publically insulting the president of the Republic of Poland".

In addition, due to this situation, the portal "International Observer" decided to discontinue cooperation with Vitali Mazurenko. In a statement, the editorial board of the portal stressed that the words spoken by the writer on Polsat News were "a private opinion of this person, spoken without the cognition and consent of the editorial board." "It does not in any way reflect the position of our editorial board and does not fit into the values that we are guided by," stressed.

After the wave of outrage, Mazurenko apologized for his behaviour in a Facebook post and stressed that he had respect for state institutions.

But it's not over. KUL referred to the case. The university posted an entry on social media in which it cut off from the journalist. "In connection with the attribution of KUL affiliation to writer Vitali Mazurence, who insulted the president of Poland, we explain: Mr Vitali Mazurenko in November 2020 was deleted from the list of students of the doctoral studies of KUL and has no relation with our university" - noted the release.
