Are Poles increasingly associated with people from abroad? CSO data show that global marriages are an increasingly crucial part of the structure of Polish unions. In 2024 5874 specified marriages were made, meaning they were liable for 4.3% of all weddings. Poles were most frequently active with Ukrainians, while Poles were most frequently married to citizens of Ukraine, large Britain and Germany.
Throughout 2024, 135 402 married couples were married in Poland. Who were the Poles most frequently married to? Ukrainians definitely dominate
The CSO data leave no uncertainty – in 2024 Poles were by far the most likely to marry Ukrainian citizens. The scale of this advantage is enormous. The number of weddings with Ukrainians was almost 10 times higher than with the another women in Belarus.

Uncompetitive Ukrainians
More than 2 1000 marriages concluded with Ukrainian citizens show how strong the social relations between Poland and Ukraine are today. 1 possible explanation is the long-term migration to Poland, the war behind the east border and regular contacts at work, at universities and in social life.

Why is Turkey so high?

This shows that global marriages of Poles present cover practically the full world, although their number outside Europe is much smaller.
How is the number of Polish and abroad marriages changing?
CSO data show that the matrimony of Poles to foreigners is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon. In 2006, relationships with persons with another citizenship constituted about 1.6% of all marriages in Poland. In 2024 this share had already increased to 4.3%.
In figures, the number of specified marriages increased from 3547 in 2006 to 5874 in 2024, although at the same time the full number of married couples made importantly decreased – with more than 226 1000 to about 135 1000 a year.
This means that the importance of global marriages grows not only due to the fact that Poles are more frequently active with foreigners, but besides due to the fact that total number of weddings in Poland is steadily decreasing.
The pandemic has not stopped the long-term trend
In 2020, the number of all married couples made has declined sharply due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The number of global marriages has besides decreased, but their share of the full number of weddings has increased to 4.0%.

First, global marriages became much more frequent than a twelve years ago. Their share increased from 1.6% in 2006 to 4.3% in 2024.
Secondly, the choices of Poles and Poles disagree significantly. Men are much more frequently married to women from east European countries, while women are much more frequently married to Western European citizens. The data besides shows a clear difference between male and female preferences. The absence of a country in the table does not mean that specified marriages did not happen – it simply means that their number was not among the highest published by the Central Statistical Office.
