Marcin Bogdan: Equally the sheath anchored under Mątwami

Age structure statistic show that in Poland in 2023, between the ages of 0 and 44, there were 20.19 million inhabitants, while those older than 44 were 17.45 million. However, if we subtract minors from 0 to 17 years of age, and there were 6.86 million of them, the number of persons entitled to vote in the 18 to 44 age group would be 13.32 million. Thus, compared to the full number of 30.77 million all persons entitled to vote, it was 43.3%. This is simply a statistical take - the data quoted are from the end of 2023, and the voter's age on the day of the vote is determined by the vote. It should besides be remembered that the number of Polish residents from year to year is decreasing.

Why am I writing about this? It is due to the fact that according to the statistic cited above that in Poland almost half of the persons entitled to vote were born after 1980. Thus, it can be assumed that, in a conscious way, from the autopsy, these people do not remember the realities of life in People's Poland. They do not remember life in Poland enslaved, in Poland destroyed by communists, in Poland, whose improvement was systematically inhibited or even blocked. These people, almost half of the electorate, experienced adult life in Poland after 1989. They experienced life in Poland, which had conditions for self-determination, although it was frequently badly ruled or even robbed. But these were years in which the hope of gradually averting the divisions inherited from communism grew. It was hoped that from hostility through distrust we would come to common acceptance and respect. And errors in governance, abuse, or even looting of state property are repairable and can be forgiven.

The first event to lie these hopes was Smolensk. Together with the toupal hull torn into thousands, Poland was besides torn into 2 parts. The prophetic words of Jarosław Mark Rymkiewicz seemed to be “What divides us – it does not stick anymore”. But paradoxically, the blade of the charges related to the assassination was directed towards Russia, namely outside, not inside the Polish state. We continued to live in the atmosphere of common allegations of mismanagement and stealing the state, but it would seem that the border for which there is no longer a chance of agreement has been crossed, there is no chance of understanding, there is no chance of forgiveness. It would seem that the line between robbing and destroying was not crossed. A border that is intuitively recognized by a large condition of the older generation, whose border cannot be discerned at all by the majority of voters born after 1980.

This boundary was crossed after the 2023 election, or more specifically, after the coalition took power on 13 December. But the turning point was a speech given by Donald Tusk in Krakowskie Przedmieście on 19 December 2021. Tusk, then opposition leader, pointing to the Presidential Palace, addressed Andrzej Duda in words of Czesław Miłosz's poem:

“Better for you would be winter dawn
And the line and branch under the weight bent’

Donald Tusk, the then opposition leader and the current Prime Minister, threatened to kill the President-in-Office of Poland Andrzej Duda. Inciting the assassination of the Polish President. The political dispute has been crossed. There is no area for compromise beyond this border. It was a turning point, and after the coalition took power on 13 December, crossing this border became the norm. Detention, abuse of those imprisoned in mining detentions, handcuffing for the applause of frail women, mass collection of immunity from Members of the Sejm. List of specified events and behavioursIt's long. Let me just quote 1 more thing. Accusing Mariusz Błaszczak of revealing state secrecy in connection with declassified and publicisation of plans to defend Poland on the Vistula River. In truth, these were plans to defend Germany at the expense of Poland and not plans to defend Poland. Worse for the plans and worse for the case. The current government accuses the erstwhile Minister of Defence that disclosure of these plans was treason, and the current opposition claims that Polish betrayals were committed by those who developed and approved these plans. Either Mariusz Błaszczak goes to prison for many years, or the creators of these plans go to jail. Either. There is no area for compromise. We're on a slippery slope, and there's nothing to grab. We are heading for disaster, Poland is heading for disaster. And this is the sound of the moving, poignant homily which he gave on 10 March in the Warsaw Cathedral. Homily about Polish-Polish hatred, which led to a fratricidal fight ending the tragic conflict of Mątwami on 13 July 1666. I will not describe in item these tragic events in our history. Nothing can better give the drama of what happened then.

And what we are in danger of today, alternatively than the words of the Prelate, to whom I powerfully encourage:

We're on our way to disaster, we're on a slippery slope, the end of which is anchored somewhere under the modern Cuttlefish. There is no good script in the human dimension. Out of nowhere's hope. That is why Fr. ‘If Our woman will not defend us, what will happen to this Nation.” Priest Pralat at the end of this shocking homily quoted the words of Jack Kaczmarski's Prayer of Fall 1989. And I compose the text of this Prayer so that everyone can not only perceive to its words but besides bend over these words. ‘If Our woman does not defend us .......”

Mr Bogdan

Prayer

If parent of God can't defend us,

So what happens to this nation?

So I pray to her all day,

To save us from starvation.

Before the famine of the mouth that ran out of bread,

From the hunger of hearts where love is not,

Before the hunger for revenge we don't need,

From the hunger of power, which is only force.

If parent of God can't defend us,

So what happens to Poles?

So I pray to her all day,

To save us from us.

Nami, what they drown, drowning others,

What they dream – others refusing to dream,

What with the head in the loop – inactive the leg kicks,

To leave a mark on a kicked face.

If parent of God can't defend us,

So what happens to Poles?

So I pray to her all day,

To save us from us.

Jacek Kaczmarski
