French president Emmanuel Macron reported on Thursday that due to the breach of the Russian airspace drones of Poland, he decided to mobilise 3 Rafale fighters to support the protection of the Polish territory and the east EU border.PAP

President Emmanuel Macron decided to send 3 French Rafal fighters to defend Polish airspace. The decision was made in consequence to mass violations by Russian drones.

On the night of Tuesday for Wednesday, Polish airspace was breached as many as 19 times during the Russian attack on Ukraine. The incidental was 1 of the biggest cases of violations of Polish territory since the beginning of the war.

Coordination with allies

The French president informed Prime Minister Donald Tusk of his decision. Macron besides spoke to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"In view of the invasion of Russian drones into Poland, I have decided to mobilise 3 Rafale fighters to aid defend the Polish airspace and east flank of Europe along with our NATO allies" - wrote Macron on platform X.

The West’s Steady Response

"Security of the European continent is our highest priority. We will not succumb to increasing intimidation from Russia" - emphasised the French leader. His words indicate determination to argue Russian aggression.

Polish and allied radiolocation systems were active in the defence operation, which tracked respective objects. Polish and allied aircraft jointly secured airspace, and drones that posed a direct threat were effectively shot down.
