With autumn and worsening conditions, pilots from the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade adapt to rapidly changing weather. They are trained, among others, on the latest machine, which reached them – a multi-purpose AW149. In their opinion, the comfort of flying improved significantly.
– Flights during the autumn-winter period are peculiar due to the frequent occurrence of demanding weather conditions. Thanks. helicopters AW149 our flight comfort has increased considerably, which besides affects the performance of tasks. On the another hand, comprehensive and modern navigation systems have reduced the crew load, which in turn results in increased safety – 1 of the pilots of the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade emphasizes.
AW149 is simply a average multipurpose chopper of the latest generation. It was designed by engineers from Leonardo Helicopters. The device is adapted for action both day and night. The glass cockpit of the device was designed so that the pilot could usage night imagination goggles. Thanks to the advanced reflection and targeting strategy and the variety of weapons, pilots can be fire support for sub-divisions of land, as well as conducting independent fire missions. AW149 is used, among others, for tactical transport (maximum can take on board 19 soldiers and 1–2 crew members), provision of supplies as part of air logistics activities, besides for direct air support, medical evacuation, search and rescue in combat conditions, peculiar forces operations, and surveillance and reconnaissance.
Under the agreement signed in July 2022, as part of an urgent operational need, the Polish Army is to receive 32 AW149. The first machines delivered to Poland in 2023 were inactive manufactured in Italian plants Leonardo Helicopters in Vergiate. More are produced in PZL-Świdnik, which is part of Leonardo Helicopters.
