Ismail Hanija, who according to the media linked to Hamas was killed in Tehran, was a longtime political leader of the group. Born in a exile camp close Gaza, 62-year-old Hanija joined Hamas in the late 1980s during the First Intifada. As Hamas' forces grew, Hanija was on the emergence after career levels – in 2004 he was appointed a associate of the secret “collective leadership”, and in 2006 Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority.
