Lewicki: A sad anniversary and kitsch of reconciliation

konserwatyzm.pl 1 year ago

Today is the National Memorial Day of the Victims of Genocide made by Ukrainian nationalists on citizens of the Second Republic of Poland.
This is the 80th anniversary of these terrible events, which are inactive an highly painful wound for both families murdered and for the full Polish community. This is due to the fact that so far the remains of the victims have not been buried, that is, they have not fulfilled the elementary, resulting from belonging to civilization, duty.

This situation is due to the Ukrainian authorities issuing an inhuman ban on exhumation and burial of the remains of the victims. They want to force the Polish authorities to renew and legalize the monument to the members of the CNS\UPA on Mount Monastyr in Verchrata, as well as in another localities. The plaque on this monument, which was a building willful, containing the names of UPA members, was destroyed in 2015 and then, in 2020, the fresh plaque was mounted and the place was monitored.
This, however, did not satisfy the current Ukrainian chief of UIPN, Anton Drobowycz, who ultimatiously demanded that the board be placed there, by the Polish government, according to the model and content the Ukrainian side wishes, that is, among another things, with names of UPA members.
And here there are many problems of legal nature, but besides moral and political nature. The main thing is that the CNS\UPA are recognised in Poland as organisations liable for carrying out genocide of the Polish population. Therefore, they cannot be considered to be organizations bringing together combatants whose graves, under the law, will be considered as war graves and will be protected by the Polish State.
This does not mean that the graves of the members of the OUN are illegal. They have only a different position and are considered private graves, subject to general regulation.

Not many people seem to know this, that members of the SS are buried in the German war cemetery in Podrocław Nadolice, possibly even specified ones from the Auschwitz crew, but without listing their names and functions on the tablets, which is consistent with Polish law. There was besides a fresh case of burial of another German criminals in the Poznań cemetery, where yet the names of criminals, specified as Dr. Rudolf Lange, a murderous associate of Einsatzgruppe, and even a associate in the Wannsee conference, were removed from the plates. (astounding as many German criminals had academic status).
Let's be clear! In Poland no 1 is denied the right to bury, regardless of who he is. Only in Ukraine authorities refuse to bury victims of genocide. The adoption of these Ukrainian simplifications on the form of this burial of UPA members would actually mean agreeing to equalize murderers and their victims.

The mentioned Mr. Drobowycz, as well as his predecessor, Windblower, would most likely be moved by the comparison of the OUN\UPA with SS men, due to the fact that they consider the uppers to be their heroes.
So who were they, the supposedly buried in Verchrat, the Ukrainian “heroes”, whom UIPN is so committed to honoring, that he even halted the exhumation of victims of genocide.
Well, the activity of ONU\UPA in the tiny territory of Lubaczowski, in which Werchrata is located, was handled by the Opolskie branch of IPN.
In the order issued in 2019 to analyse the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists in the area of Lubaczovsky, 95 pages are described their feats of killings carried out in 138 localities of this district. It can be read that in "the years 1944-1947 more than 3,500 people died at the hands of UPA in the Lubacz district, of which the exact circumstances of death were determined in the case of 1621 victims".
This immense hecatomb of victims, very frequently murdered with exceptional cruelty, concerns only 1 county. And it should be remembered that the powiats, in the territory of as many as six provinces, where Ukrainian nationalists conducted genocide of Poles, were over 80. This shows the possible tremendous scale of this genocide.

It should besides be noted that among the citizens of the Ukrainian nationalities who were murdered by OUN\UPA there were besides many citizens of Polish Ukrainian nationality who were deprived by Ukrainian nationalists of their lives, due to the fact that they committed crimes specified as contacting Poles, helping Poles, marrying Poles, accepting work from Poles, not to mention refusing any material benefits required by local OUN-UPA-Service Bezpeky cells, or refusing to go to UPA. I remind you that people were dragged into this formation under duress.
It comes from the fact that today, if Ukrainian nationalists want to apply the exact indications of their UPA protoplasts, on which they are referring, then all the millions of Ukrainians who have been coming to Poland for years, especially since February 2022, are looking for work and help, contact with Poles, even mixed marriages, should punish them in the same way as 80 years ago.
Besides, this way of reasoning inactive in these environments is deep in repentance. any time ago, I came across a Ukrainian nationalist activist from Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, who, at any meeting, was loudly revenged on his fellows from Olsztyn, that they did not engage in creating a school with Ukrainian language in Olsztyn, so that specified a school is not there, despite the Ukrainian minority, and this old one, is rather numerous. He challenged them from “separs”, which corresponded to specified an epithet, meaning separatists, and directed towards those Ukrainians who did not want to belong to the Ukrainian state.
An interesting analogy he built! Isn't it?

Let us besides deal with the act of alleged reconciliation that took place late in Lutsk. Anyone who heard these statements that fell there, about the “victims of Volyn”, most likely opened their eyes wide and wondered what was going on, due to the fact that there was no word about any genocide in the Poles?
A brief presentation of the environment in which this show was held may be a much more interesting topic. In today's town of Lutsk, there are 3 magnificent streets: 1 is called Bandery, the another is called Szuchewycz, who directed UPA during the genocide on Poles, and the 3rd is “The Sawura Flock”, the 1 who initiated and conducted genocide in Volyn.
In addition, the Bandersztat festival is held all year in Lutsk, where young people are to be filled with the ideas of Stepan Bandera.
In specified an environment, this questionable act of reconciliation took place, in which very crucial people now took part, both in the political and spiritual plan. 1 of them, as an exception, I will. It is the metropolitan (the Orthodox Church of Ukraine) of Epiphany (Dumenko). His attitude towards the things that were said there, preferably, in my opinion, shows a fragment of his another public statement, which I will quote: “And erstwhile they call us banders, we are arrogant of it.”

Interestingly, there is not yet a Bandera monument in Lutsk, but not due to the fact that they don't want it there, but due to the fact that for respective good years now, the local flagmen cannot agree whether the designed monument will be sufficiently awesome and set in the most typical place. In 2021 they yet came to an agreement and the monument was to stand, as early as the following year, but in the meantime there was war and the monument inactive no. This war besides prevented another edition of the Banderszt festival. It's most likely a shame for any people, but I'm not 1 of them.

Finally, just 1 more remark and an example of developments, which, despite everything, may rise hope that all these monuments of Bandera and its subordinates, will halt scaring Ukraine 1 day, which seems impossible today, due to the fact that this wave of flagism inactive seems to be growing.
However, I was inspired by a communicative from another neighbouring Ukraine, a country, or Romania.
There, during the war, he acted, to a large degree akin to Bandera, a politician, whose supporters, like Bandera, called him: conductor – it's the same as the providnyk in Ukrainian.
It is, of course, Marshal Antonescu, Hitler's celebrated collaborator. His posthumous heroics began to grow in Romania in the 1990s: monuments were built, named after him streets, and akin things were done at the time in Ukraine regarding Bandera worship.
However, in time, besides with any abroad participation, it was all stopped. The most interesting of all are the fates of his awesome bust, which was set up in Bucharest. It was not demolished, but covered from above with a kind of iron cage, covering the bust. Thus the controversial image is not presented publicly, although it is inactive standing there. specified a solution could be good, in the future, besides for the statue of Bandera.
