For the 3rd time, the Polish Association of Defenders of Human Life organizes the summertime Pro-Life Academy. Five-day workshops and lectures will be held in Krakow from 28 June to 2 July 2023. Organizers invitation those who want to deepen their cognition on bioethical topics and the defence of human life, and peculiar teachers, educators, catechists and community leaders.
The basis of the summertime Academy is workshops. We work utilizing activation methods that make creativity and critical reasoning skills, grow our position and deepen communication – says Magdalena Guziak-Nowak, manager of Education in PSOŻC. We learn to talk to those who have different views. The key here are 2 things: sensitivity and openness to another man, the desire to perceive to him with respect and to build a affirmative message to delight the beauty of life. That's dialog and affirmation of man.
Sometimes you can get the impression that the defence of human life is only crucial to a fistful of people, activists from foundations and associations, and we, as average people, cannot do much. Hence the initiative of the Pro-life summertime Academy, or workshops for current leaders and those who want to work to defend human life. We request meetings that add courage, unite our environment and aid build fresh contacts and relationships. We request to know how we can work effectively where we live – in our village, parish or municipality – emphasises Marcin Nowak, organizer of the summertime Academy. – Life must be defended wisely. Not to halt on emotion, but to talk on argument. These are best tested in practice, which is why the Pro-life Academy has a workshop character – adds.
Participation in the Pro-Life summertime Academy is an chance to establish relationships with another pro-lifers and build networks of people working together to defend human life. 3 years of experience in organizing workshops show that participants support each other, share experiences or ask for help. The circumstantial fruit of the last summertime Academy are the 2 Pro-Life Clubs, which founded participants last year.
Despite the large fascination with defending human life and the large joy of taking the first steps on this road, I had many doubts. The pro-life subject was not received positively in my surroundings – both home and school. I'm a fifth-year med student. Unfortunately, in this environment, the alleged "women's rights" are frequently referred to as "free choice", while fewer people are full aware that the choice ends where the another person's harm begins. I was alone with all this, I needed community. I saw an announcement about the Pro-Life summertime Academy on Facebook, and I signed up immediately. I wondered what it would be like, I didn't know anyone. Still, I braved myself and set off. – described by Sandra Wcisło, a associate last year.
This year, participants will discuss, among others, the improvement of the kid from conception and building a permanent attitude “for life” through affirmative education. They will look at the problem of media manipulation and verify arguments for abortion. There will besides be no deficiency of reflection on ever-present and controversial topics specified as in vitro, hormonal contraception or cultural changes in the field of sexuality.
Among the invited guests who will meet with participants are professionals in their fields, among others. dr n. med. Ewa Slizoń-Kuczapska – specialist obstetrician-ginecologist, med. Dorota Jarczewska – household medicine specialist and doctor Łukasz Cichocki A psychiatrist and a psychotherapist.
