President Elekt Karol Nawrocki gave the Hungarian weekly "Mandiner" the first abroad intelligence after winning the presidential elections in Poland. Nawrocki stressed the request to strengthen the Visegrad Group (V4) and the east flank of NATO.
Nawrocki assured in conversation with the title of close government in Budapest that I want to strengthen V4 and the Bucharest Nine. In his opinion, closer cooperation under V4 is crucial for strengthening the east flank of NATO.
Speaking about Poland's and Hungary's relations, he recalled akin historical experiences as a common conflict against communist regimes, which "bringing both nations closer together". He admitted that he himself had many friends in Hungary.
"Hungary is simply a very crucial ally for Poland" - stated.
Ukraine in the EU?
The President-elect repeated in an interview given in Warsaw that Poland will proceed to support Ukraine strategically and militarily, but it is itself opposed to its hasty integration into the European Union.
"Kijów must first take care of relations with neighbouring countries, especially economical and historical, like the issue of Volyn genocide" - stated.
The politician added that Russia and its aggressive policy stay the most crucial enemy in the east.
Polish-Hungarian relations
Commenting on the fresh election run in Poland, Nawrocki noted that he faced many attacks from opposition and abroad entities, peculiarly the European People's organization (the largest group in the European Parliament, including the Civic Platform). Nevertheless, as he felt - He won thanks to "the voices of average Poles".
Nawrocki's win was welcomed by the government in Budapest and Prime Minister Viktor Orban estimated that the fresh Polish president would be "an opposition to the pro-war government in Poland".
Orban's government remains in sharp conflict with Prime Minister Donald Tuski and his environment. In December 2024. Budapest granted asylum to Marcin Romanowski, politician of the Law and Justice and erstwhile Deputy Minister of Justice, on whom there are allegations of irregularities in the actions of the Justice Fund.
