Anniversary of the triumph of Polish troops at the conflict of Sasowy Rog

Today, in our Calendar we will look at a little-known episode of the Smolenian War from 1632-1634, or the clash of the Polish Crown with the Ottoman Empire.

On 9 August 1632 the Tsarsk army received orders to concentrate and attack Poland. Due to disputes in command and late mobilization, the first troops did not cross the border until September. The main forces under Mikhail Shein headed for Smolensk. The auxiliary blows occurred at the full dimension of the border, from Infinant to Chernich.

The attackers managed to get a number of smaller border fortresses, specified as White or Dorohobuzh. This last town captured and murdered, a Scottish mercenary on the Tsaric Service, Alexander Leslie. Due to his experience, he was promoted to colonel and took command of 2 Tsarist infantry regiments (including 1 reformed soldat regiment). Despite its first successes, Smolensk was not under siege until late October.

Slow concentration and slow Russian actions allowed to be conducted in Poland, the calmest always free election. On 8 November, the boy of Sigismund III Vasa, Władysław IV, was elected king. After the coronation of February 6, 1633, the fresh ruler proceeded to recruit an intensive army. The parliament had well established taxes on the army, and the king had it equipped with the latest weapons and had it build peculiar arsenals for it.

Most of the mobilized forces moved along with the king at Smolensk to unlock the besieged city. any of the troops under the leadership of the captain Stanislaw Koniecpolski went south to cover the border against the expected Turkish and Tartar invasion.

Indeed, the Moskals have made a deal with the Turks. It was all the easier to cooperate, that the advanced Porta was eager for revenge on Poles for the defeat of Chocim in 1621. However, she lacked the strength for a large invasion. In the end, it was decided to engage in diversionary attacks and supporting the actions of Moscals, aimed at establishing Polish forces.

In June 1633, Poland's borders were crossed by about 1,000 riders, a Tartar chambull under command Cantimira Murza. The Ordinists invaded and ravaged the area of the Podolski Stone. They acted on the orders of beja silistri, Abazi-pasha as a reconnaissance of his main forces.

On the news of the need, the large crown captain Stanislaw Koniecpolski separated the riding squad and went in pursuit of the retreating prisoners and Tatar spoils. He had 2,000 soldiers under command. U

The leaking chambulum, after crossing the border of Moldavian Hospodry, felt assured and slowed down the rate of withdrawal, but the hetman continued to pursue. The clash occurred on 4 July under Sasowy Rog over Prut. The Koniecpolska forces won easy victory. The hetman army released the full jasy and took all the loot taken under the Stone. She besides captured many crucial Tatars.

Victory did not prevent the main Turkish-Moldova-Tatar forces under Abazi Pasha from attacking. On 22 October 1633, however, the invasion was halted in the victorious Polish conflict of Paniow, after which the Turks withdrew behind Dniestr. Istanbul decided to wash its hands from this campaign. Abaza Pasha was accused of being self-righteous and executed.

We besides remember the winner on 4 July Battle of Hull from 1610.
