Jarosław Zieliński about Augustów Oblast

The Augustov Oblast of July 1945 was the largest crime on Polish dirt after planet War II, carried out by the order of the 1st Secretary of the Communist organization of the russian Union of the russian Republics of Joseph Stalin (despots, war criminal, communist dictator of the russian Union, the current name of the Russian Federation), by the russian and Polish communist militia-military forces (NKVD (Ludowa Komisariat Rozrodowy USSR), SMERSZ (Special Methods of Spy Detection), the Red Army, the safety Office, the Civic Militia, I Regiment of the Prague People's Army of Poland), aimed at soldiers of the pro-Akowski underground independence.

It aimed to break strong opposition in north-eastern Poland against the fresh russian occupation. During the pacification campaign, which began on July 12, 1945, more than 7,000 people were arrested, whose letters to the NKVD helped Polish confiscation.

In the last years of the Polish People's Republic, the Citizen Search Committee of Suwałszczyzna Residents Lost in July 1945 managed to identify about 600 names of people murdered in Oława. Thanks to the efforts of families associated with the Augustov Oblast Memorial Union, their correspondence with the Russian national safety Service and investigation of the Memorial Association led by Prof. Nikita Petrov, we know that the number of murdered people – inhabitants of the districts of Augustowski, Suwalski, Sokólski and Sejneński, as well as areas presently outside the east border of Poland – could exceed up to 2,000 people. inactive 80. Years we have no access to Russian and Belarusian archives and we inactive don't know where the victims' temporal remains rest.

During the period of the Polish People's Republic, the crime of the Augustov Oblast and its victims was doomed to oblivion. The way to the fact and the memorable memory of the Oblast was not easy either, and it is inactive not easy in free Poland after 1989. 1 reason for this, in addition to the deficiency of access to archival documents, is the persistent impact on the public life of the heirs of the apparatus of communist power.

In 2014, I was the initiator, supported by the Parliamentary Club Law and Justice, of a resolution in which in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, for the first time, he paid tribute to the Victims of Oława Augustowska, and in 2015 – the Act on the Establishment of 12 July The Day of Memory of the Victims of the Augustine Siege. Thanks to this, and thanks to the celebrations organized all year on the symbolic Hill of the Cross in Gibach and commemorations, in the form of memorial plaques and monuments, cognition about this crime is becoming increasingly common.

We should do everything to make it part of the patriotic collective awareness of Poles. The conference "The fact and memory of the Augustowska circular in 80. The anniversary of the crime” and the exhibition “... And they never came home....” alphabet of the Augustowska Siege, on behalf of all organizers and my own cordial invitation.
