IPN: The Government of Moldova has adopted a fresh military strategy – anti-aircraft defence and cybersecurity priority

The Government of Moldova approved on 8 October a fresh military strategy for the period 2025–2035, setting out the directions for the improvement of the national defence strategy and priorities for the modernisation of the armed forces. The paper focuses on strengthening anti-aircraft defence capabilities, developing cybersecurity and improving military training in consequence to fresh safety challenges.

The defence minister Anatolie Nosatîi stated that the strategy aims to "turn the armed forces into a modern, professional and well-equipped army capable of defending the sovereignty, independency and territorial integrity of the state".

The objectives of the paper include the modernisation and standardisation of the army, increased cooperation with abroad partners and the integration of Moldova into the European safety architecture. At global level, the strategy envisages deepening cooperation with the European Union and another partners by adapting the defence strategy to Euro-Atlantic standards.

Moldova's erstwhile military strategy was adopted in 2018. In December 2024 Parliament besides approved the National Defence strategy for another decade, in which the Russian Federation was identified as the main origin of threat.

Previously, a law was adopted in Moldova allowing the examination of the polygraph of applicants for contractual service and soldiers having access to classified information.
