On Thursday afternoon, the College of Cardinals elected the pope. White smoke over St Peter's Square appeared after the 3rd vote that day.
The Conclave continued from Wednesday 7 May. It was attended by 133 cardinals from all over the world, including 4 cardinals from Poland: Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski and Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś.
The required number of votes, or minimum 2/3, was obtained by Cardinal Robert Provost of the United States, who accepted the name Leon XIV.
Conclave lasted 24 hours.
