The Summit of the Volunteers' Coalition in Paris proved to be an chance not only for negotiations on the destiny of Ukraine. Just before the authoritative start of the meeting, European leaders issued a joint message and a strong speech reminded Donald Trump who was entitled to decide on the membership of Grenladnia.

"Grenland belongs to its inhabitants. It is Denmark and Greenland, and only they can decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland" – we read in a paper signed on 6 January 2026 by French president Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

At the outset, a joint message by European leaders highlighted that "the safety of the Arctic remains 1 of Europe's key priorities and is crucial for global and transatlantic security".

"NATO made it clear that the Arctic region is simply a precedence and European allies are expanding their commitment. We and many another allies have increased our presence, actions and investments to guarantee the safety of the Arctic and to deter our opponents. The Kingdom of Denmark, along with Greenland, is simply a associate of the North Atlantic Alliance," it was stated.

"The United States is simply a key partner in this venture, as an ally of NATO and under a defence agreement concluded between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States in 1951", stressed the leaders of Europe.
