A massive power failure paralyzed life in the Dominican Republic, causing communications chaos, industrial halt and communication problems.
According to the Dominican electrical Transmission Company, the power plant in San Pedro de Macoris and Quisquey was shut down, resulting in an avalanche series of failures in another parts of the system. The origin remains unknown.
The blackout disabled the Santo Domingo subway and paralyzed traffic after switching off the light signal. There's no telling erstwhile the power will be restored.
Data from the global Energy Agency show that about 60% of energy in the country comes from oil and its derivatives, the remainder from coal, gas and renewable sources.
